ABOUT LARA


Lara is a patient, nurturing, experienced dyslexia practitioner and classroom teacher. She has more than thirteen years of classroom experience working in kindergarten, second, third, and fifth grades. Lara founded Read & Write NoVA in 2015. She works privately as Certified Wilson Dyslexia Teacher, using structured literacy to support struggling readers.  

Lara has had the pleasure of helping many kinds of learners over the years, including general education, gifted, ESOL, special education, and students with dyslexia. She is well prepared to teach range of literacy needs of elementary aged students including emergent and transitional reading skills, comprehension, decoding, phonics, spelling, and writing.

Lara received her Masters of Education Reading Specialist degree in 2005 from California University of Pennsylvania. As a result of her training, she learned valuable techniques for teaching reading to children and adults with dyslexia and other learning differences. In 2014, Lara was honored with National Board Certification in Reading-Literacy and Language Arts in early and middle childhood (ages 3-12). This is the most respected professional certification available in education. Lara studied with the Dyslexia Training Institute in 2016 and completed a year long practicum in 2019 to become certified as Wilson Dyslexia Practitioner.
